New Shadows Movie Trailer Features Barnabas' Arrival
As we reported earlier, an unseen one-minute television trailer for the Dark Shadows movie aired during Sunday's season premiere of Mad Men. The new trail can now be viewed in the window above, and includes additional sequences of Johnny Depp's Barnabas arriving at the present day Collinwood, a dangerous encounter with Angelique and a good old-fashioned vampire bite. Well after seeing the new ad it has confirmed that the reason Depp is trying so hard to look like (corpse paint) a classic vampire is that this Barnabas doesn't hide the fact that he is a vampire. In fact his story (family history) the family knows all along so there is no need to keep the secret of who he is. No cousin from England story is needed. Also it seems there is no mausoleum as his coffin was buried.
Love the new hauntng movie photo's of DARK SHADOWS especially the Protrait of Barnabas Collins very on edge Classic. And Mr. Depp as the much "feared & beloved" Barnabas Collins and Ms. Eva Green as the lovely wicked Angelique are a chilly pair. I gasped when she added her red lingerie into his casket (on his face) most shocking...'made me giggle. - Sharon
It all looks great to me - The first trailer was heavy on humor, but its very clear that there is a lot of Gothic pathos and horror elements to the film. We have to trust that Burton and Depp are going to deliver the goods. They have a great track record with things like Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hallow and Sweeny Todd. They know this genre...
As someone who has attempted to paint Barnabas Collins through the years, I find the portrait of him in this movie to be quite exquisite. The costume and stance is pure 18th century portraiture echoing work done by Thomas Gainsborough (does anyone see a hint of "The Blue Boy" in this?) and John Singleton Copley. The hair and facial features are an amalgam of both Mr. Frid and Mr. Depp. In fact, I had to do a double take, as I thought that I was looking soley at a portrait of Barnabas as interpreted by Mr. Frid! Amazing artwork.

There is a mausoleum. It can be seen when Angelique wraps the chain around Barnabas and places that red fabric over his mouth.
The bite-scene of Barnabas biting the workman is much more frightening-looking.
