Unseen Pilot Clip

A clip from the little-seen 2004 Dark Shadows pilot has surfaced online, as part of a showreel on actor Alec Newman's official website. The sequence features Alec as Barnabas alongside Marley Shelton as Victoria. To view the video click here and select the media section.

Since the making of the pilot episode, Alec has maintained his Dark Shadows ties by recording several audio dramas for Big Finish Productions. This blog is currently running a prize draw, with a chance to win an original script signed by Alec and Kathryn Leigh Scott. To enter, click here.

Something about his character and hers did not leave me with that Dark Shadows feel. I'd like to see the pilot in it's entirety.

He makes for a more sensual Barnabas, that's for sure! Very odd to see a blond as Victoria.

The guy playing Barnabas was much too young. A blonde Vicky? The girl that played Julia Hoffman in that had to the WORST casting choice ever. No wonder WB didn't buy it!

I have seen this pilot at the DS Festivals in its entirety (it's the only place it's ever been shown). I think Alec Newman is brilliant in it--as Chad said, a more "sensual" Barnabas. Handsome, charming, and deadly. That being said, he is the BEST thing about this poor pilot, which was all kinds of wrong although it COULD have been beautiful in the right hands. I hope it turns up as a bonus feature on some future DVD release. Maybe when "House of Dark Shadows" and "Night of Dark Shadows" are finally released on DVD, this interesting little gem could show up THERE as a bonus feature.

Honestly, I loved it. Thought this was maybe the best DS I'd ever seen. Who cares what color hair Vicki has? How can that possibly matter? It was a pilot but I'd've loved to see how a series would have developed.
