New Dark Shadows Comic Book Launches

..

The first issue of Dynamite Comics' new
Dark Shadows comic book is now available. The monthly series follows on from the original television episodes with all new stories. Issue One is available with two covers, seen above. The script is by Dark Shadows News Page editor Stuart Manning, with artwork by Aaron Campbell. The first issue sold out within days of its release and has been reprinted. From the publisher:

Television's original reluctant vampire is back! Barnabas Collins is re-adjusting to life under his vampiric curse. Haunted by terrifying dreams of his age-old lover and nemesis, Angelique, and fighting his bloodlust, Barnabas fears that danger lies ahead for all who live at Collinwood. Meanwhile, Barnabas' ally and trusted friend Dr. Julia Hoffman is harboring secrets of her own...

The launch of the comic has been covered by a number of websites. Newsarama hosted a preview of the opening pages, while KSiteTV, PopCultureAddict, Things From Another World and ComicVine have featured writer and artist interviews.

The Dark Shadows comic book can be purchased from comic stores everywhere. To order the series directly from the publishers, click here.

It was an absolutely brilliant first issue! So glad I got my copy before they sold out at the local Hasting's!

Can't keep a good vampire down, after all. The question will be the staying power. Was DS truly a product of its time, the 1960's and these remakes are going to be flashes in the pan? Whilst we all may love the nostalgia trip, it is a very different world that Barnabas et al will inhabit.

The issue was terrific!!!

I was expecting to enjoy it, but I didn't think it would be as awesome as it was.

I hope this series has a long run.

The first issue was great! Stuart, your writing and Aaron's art really captured the flavor of the original show. I'm preordering the next issues.

Loved the first issue!! Now I need to find the second, but the link provided only takes us to issues three and four. Anyone know of a good way to order or pre-order number two?

Brilliant comic Stuart!! Thanks!

I've edited the post with a new supplier that should be able to supply all four issues.

Thanks Stuart--I went ahead and ordered issues 2, 3, and 4--but it appears that the shipping charge will be $7.10 USD each! The cost of the comics is only $3.99 USD each. YIKES! I have an inquiry in to Dynamite and if this is actually the case, I think I'd rather cancel the order and purchase at my local comics shop! We'll see what they say.

I absolutely loved the first two issues. I was brought into Collinwood in a way the Gold Key publications have been unable to achieve. I'm really looking forward to continuing the story and hope this series has a long life. Congratulations on a job very well done!
