New Dark Shadows Comic Book Announced

Dynamic Comics have announced that they will be launching a monthly Dark Shadows comic book, featuring new stories following on from where the original show left off. Officially licensed by Dan Curtis Productions, the new series debuts in October, available online and from major comic stores. The scripts will be written by Dark Shadows News Page editor Stuart Manning, featuring interior artwork by Aaron Campbell and cover art by Campbell and acclaimed artist Francesco.

"I am so happy to work with someone of Stuart's expertise and calibre," says Dynamite Entertainment President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "Aaron's fantastic work on Sherlock Holmes and Green Hornet: Year One and Francesco Francavilla's covers are truly a sight to behold!"

"We've really put together a great team," adds series editor Joe Rybandt. "Stuart is crafting a tale for fans old and new, and Aaron's incredible detail will find a perfect home with this title, capturing the mood and atmosphere of Dark Shadows perfectly. It's gonna be a truly Gothic affair." To read the full press release, posted on the Comic Book Resources website, click here.

  5. In addition, this will be a great format to tell longer, layered stories like the TV Series. Hoping for some longer, epic type stories. Maybe a revisit of Chris, Sabrina, and Amy's storyline?

  6. A visit to Collinwood in 1971 would be great. The show ended in the past, let the comic begin as the show ended visiting the present day Collins family. We were left hanging as there were so many unanswered questions. Perhaps Sam Hall could contribute or perhaps any of the others who worked on the original series. Maybe Elizabeth Collins Stoddard can finally answer the question pertaining to the paternity of Victoria Winters as Victoria returns. To be continue. Congrats to the Mr. Manning andhis crew!

  7. This is awesome news! I'm a big fan of Stuart Manning's audio dramas and graphics, so I know this is going to be outstanding. I do hope they tie up some of the loose ends, like what ever happened to Adam?

  8. Love this idea! One problem the series ended with Barnabas and Julia returning to 1971 and his curse had been lifted by angelique prior to her being shot and killed.
Why would he still have "bloodlust" as the new series suggests?

  11. Sounds great, Stuart! As Brand/Continuity Police, will any of the Big Finish Dramas be involved or mix into the Comic Series? Maybe a new Facebook page for fun discussions!

  13. Fantastic news. All those characters that were written out because the actors left the show can return: Maggie, Vicki, Chris, Sabrina, Amy, etc. Rather than immediately explain anomalies like Barnabas' curse being lifted, Edith's death in 1841, they can slip the answers in periodically.

  14. Thanks for your fast response to my question about continuity from the 1971 ending Stuart! OK... Can I have one hint? LOL! I recently bought (but have not listened to yet) The Night Whispers written by you (and because of the excellent reviews it got and JF returning to the role of Barnabas).... Is the answer I am seeking in this volume??
Again I am soooo pleased you are doing this project and wish you much success..... This might even trump the coming new film! And I could even see a series of books leading to a revival of a tv series!!! thomas

  15. I agree, Tony; Edith's death made me wonder how that affected the DS Timeline, whether it was significant or not.

  17. Dynamite Entertainment? You know that means, VAMPIRELLA CROSSOVER! Or at least a happy Halloween pin-up of the two iconic 60's vamps together.

This looks awesome, much better than I expected. Aaron Campbell is a good penciller, and I'm glad you're writing Stuart. Good writer/penciller is all I needed to hear. Can't wait till October.

  18. October...just in time for my birthday. I can't wait. The cover looks true to JF's image as Barnabas. I truly hope that it is very successful and there will be many more issues to follow. Wonderful news, Stuart and all.

  19. Hi! Does anyone have a copy of the "Dark Shadows -- The First Year" or "Dark Shadows -- The Beginnings" book, I don't remember the exact title, that was advertised at the end of some of the Dark Shadows DVD? It looked like it had lots of photos and set diagrams etc. I'd love to find/buy/look at a copy!
